Yannick Jaulin

Close 52 / 53

Yannick Jaulin is an eclectic storyteller. He narrates about his region (Vendée) and its language (parlange) to better depict the world around us. That's what's wonderful about storytellers, especially Yannick Jaulin; they understand the importance of roots, memory, and the passing of time (which rushes by too fast).

For nearly forty years, he's wandered through words, from hall to hall, city to city, carrying his stories in a bundle of myths. Yannick Jaulin leaps from one topic to another (see on YouTube), intertwining tales from his hometown (Pougne-Hérisson) with grand narratives of humanity ("J'ai pas fermé l'œil de la nuit," "Conteur ? Conteur"). His latest duet, "Ma langue mondiale" (consisting of shows "Ma langue maternelle va mourir" and "J'ai du mal à vous parler d’amour" and "Causer d’amour"), is a testament in itself.

Yannick Jaulin can boast of having discovered the "navel of the world" in Pougne-Hérisson, Deux-Sèvres, where all human stories were born; which is quite something. He even founded the festival of Pougne-Hérisson, "Le Nombril du Monde" (to put it simply and geographically), which celebrated its 30th anniversary in August 2020.

You can discover his show "J'ai pas fermé l'oeil de la nuit..." every November.
